Treasure hunt puzzle 1

Part 1

Two men unforgotten set off to reach the world’s highest altitude, in the air so thin and clear. Over 100 years ago was the day when family and friends last saw them alive.

What happened there remained a myth – on the top of the earth, where death is so close. One body frozen, still and stiff. Another lost in snow and ice.

The camera and diary were also never found, but one piece came back from the permanent ice. It enclosed an important part of a mountaineer.

Ole & Tore told the story in 24. The word you are looking for is the solution first part. It names the piece that came back and enclosed the mountaineering part.

Part 2

Once you shone in the dark – but not through fame. You painted with your hands, finely and skillfully, the glowing digits, your own tongue sharpening the brush.

The substance they used was “blue light”. The daughter of the dragon, full of power and strength, but also deadly for you.

They died in agony fighting against lies, greed and power. Their suffering and agonizing death led to the end of the dark shaft.

But where did the suffering begin? what is the name of the place where it began? The women themselves sought it out until illness and death prevented them from doing so.

Ole & Tore told the story in the year 23. The word you are looking for is the solution second part. Only two syllables are allowed.

Hints for the solution word

Puts together the words from ONE and TWO and do you have syllables of the same sum, this could be the correct solution be.

But if you’re not sure whether your solution word is the right one, then rest assured, it’s not.

SOLUTION to the treasure hunt part 1 and 2:

Thank you very much for your interest in “Wild & Strange” treasure hunt.
The puzzle was not entirely trivial. But for attentive listeners of Ole and Tore, it was at least a little easier.

In part one of the puzzle was about the possible ascent of Mount Everest by Mallory and Irvine in 1924, during which they lost their lives.

Mallory’s body was found in 1999. Irvine’s body remains undiscovered to this day. In September 2024, a film crew from National Geographic magazine found an old mountain boot on the Rongbuk Glacier on the Tibetan side of Mount Everest. mountaineering boot with a sock and the remains of a foot. The sock was embroidered with the name “A. C. Irvine”.

The first solution word could therefore be “mountain boot”, “mountain shoe”, “sock” or even “shoe” could be.

In the second part is about the Radium Girls. The Radium Girls were a group of young female workers who worked in watch factories in the USA in the 1910s and 1920s. watch factories and painted dials with luminous paint containing radium. They later became known as the “Radium Girls”, as they became seriously ill and even died from inhaling and swallowing radium.

Then there was the hint that the words from ONE and TWO must be put together and that this word must have as many syllables syllables. This referred to the numbers one and two. The solution word should therefore have three syllables. However, this was probably somewhat misleading.

The last clue “But if you’re not sure if your solution word is the right one, know that it’s not.” means that if you have played the episode “Marie and the factory girls” the solution word should seem logical and clear. The story ultimately took place in a shoe factory.

As permissible solution words are therefore

Shoe factory, boot factory, mountain shoe factory or also mountain boot factory.

Raphael

Riddle part 3

He spoke in numbers and wrote in poetry, saw order in chaos and wrote it down.

He knew the veins of the earth precisely, from frosty ice to tropical blue. Great scholars followed in his path. In exchange with Goethe, he gave light and advice to the people who came.

His brother, a scholar of high sense, writer, statesman, with a clear beginning, committed to the spirit of neo-humanism, he renewed education and established a university.

The word you are looking for is the first part of the solution.

Riddle part 4

It spreads the seeds and makes them swell. Gives life and can kill in so many places.

People and animals, they seek the seams. Small is the beginning and tiny the power. Mighty at the end, captured in the delta.

We change its essence and shape the power, but do not change the form, name or power.

The word you are looking for is the second part of the solution.

Solution word

Puts together the words from ONE and TWO and if you have the sum of threesyllables, this will be the correct solution will be.

Please note: Your solution word please post under Post solutions to the treasure hunt.

SOLUTION for the treasure hunt parts 3 and 4:

Thank you very much for your interest in “Wild & Strange” to our second treasure hunt.

In part one of the puzzle was Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt wanted. The great German explorer and younger brother of the important educational reformer Wilhelm von Humboldt.

The first solution word was “Humboldt“.

In the second part a flowing body of water and thus a river river was described.

The verse: “We transform its essence and shape the power, but do not change the form, name or power.” point to the transformation of the power of water into electricity. Whereby “stream” also refers to a very large river.

So the second solution word was “current“. On “river” the riddle also fitted and the transformation could also be understood as the straightening and penning of rivers,

Then there was the hint that the words from ONE and TWO together and in the sum over three syllables in total.

As permissible solution words are therefore

Humboldt Current (cold ocean current on the west coast of South America) or the Humboldt River (483 km long river in Nevada, USA).

Raphael

Last riddle for the first treasure hunt
His home burst into embers and light, his will shaped by morality and duty.
With incredible strength, he gives strong guidance and even in the test of tragedy and suffering, he remains steadfast and just.
We are looking for the name that he wears in everyday life and also the name that his girlfriend recognizes as hers.
The names you are looking for are the solution part. But remember the etiquette of politeness.
A world-famous expedition is known by an almost identical name. Ole and Tore told their story in the year 2024.
Question:
What is the title of the “Wild & Strange” episode from 2024 that reported on this expedition and in which year did it end?
Note: Please post your answer under: Post solutions to the treasure hunt”.

SOLUTION to the last riddle of the first treasure hunt:

Thank you very much for your interest in “Wild & Strange” to our third treasure hunt.

The first and second verse gave the reference to Superman whose home planet Krypton exploded and who is regarded as a particularly moral and dutiful superhero of D.C.

The third verse indicates that the middle name of Superman and his girlfriend are being sought. So Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

The fourth verse notes the polite form and so Lois is to be placed in front → Lois and Clark.

Now, according to the fifth verse, there was only one world-famous expedition with similar name that Ole & Tore told in the year 2024:

Drama on the Missouri – The expedition of Lewis, Clark and Sacajawea

This expedition ended in 1806 and thus in the same year as the failed expedition of Mungo Park who died on or in the Niger in 1806. Ole & Tore told us about this expedition on 31.08. and thus the start of the third treasure hunt.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the treasure hunt. We will start the next big treasure hunt on September 28.

There will be three rounds of puzzles again. This time, however, we will leave all parts open until the end.

You are welcome to suggestions, ideas or wishes about the treasure hunt under “Questions, answers and comments”.

All three puzzles were solved correctly by:

  • Catherine

  • Nikola

  • Andi

  • Silke

  • Annemarie

  • Caro

Ole & Tore will now be the winner or the winner in the Wild & Strange episode “SO was the German Radio Prize 2025 REALLY” in the draw.

I’m looking forward to the next round and I’m curious to see if the women will be at the top of the solution lists again.

Best regards,

Raphael

Treasure hunt puzzle 2

Part 1

He went to sea and explored the world for one of the greatest powers. He fought in wars and many famous battles.

His legacy, however, lies in the cold of the earth. It was there that he achieved fame, notoriety and, initially, honor.

He went on his last journey with the god of darkness and many men. There the terror took hold, relentless and hard.

Ole & Tore have so far only told us this story as the story of a story in the year 23.

What is the name of the person you are looking for and what was the destination of his last journey?

SOLUTION:

Here was wanted Sir John Franklinwho began his career as a sailor as a teenager. He took part in the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801, the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and the Battle of New Orleans in 1814.

In 1818, Franklin set off on his first polar expedition under the leadership of David Buchan.

After several other expeditions, some of which were very dramatic and tragic, Sir John Franklin set off on May 19, 1845 with two ships, the Terror(Terror) and the Erebus(God of Darkness) and a crew of 129 men on his last expedition to discover the legendary Northwest Passage to discover the legendary Northwest Passage.

Ole & Tore talked about the expedition in the form of a film review of the US series “The Terror”. However, I personally can’t recommend the series.

Wanted person: Sir John Franklin

The destination of his last voyage: The Northwest Passage

Raphael

Part 2

He studied at Oxford, witty with style, he already loved theatrical play there. History and humor in epic harmony. He shaped comedy with a fine gait.

On stage he speaks, he praises with paper, he increases his knowledge through the many places he has traveled. The auditorium is spellbound by his wit and intellect. His words move an entire country.

In a hundred pages and more, he tells the dramatic story of a ship in the sea. It was bent over by the ice in the cold and found its end pushed to the bottom of the ocean.

He led the Society of the Description of the Earth of the highest rank, which financed famous expeditions for many lifetimes.

What is the name of the person you are looking for and what is the title of the novel of his book about the sunken ship?

SOLUTION:

Here was Sir Michael Edward Palin who was a member of the Oxford Revue comedy group during his studies. As a member of the Monty Python acting group, he often played roles that called for exaggerated enthusiasm or unwavering calm. In the Life of Brian, he played Pontius Pilate.

One of his other great passions is exploring countries and places and he began producing documentaries for the BBC about his travels. These were a great success in the UK and a so-called “Palin effect” set in. Many Britons followed his travel routes or visited the places he reported on.

In 2019, Palin published a travelogue about the Erebus, which took part in the Franklin expedition and was lost until 2014, entitled Erebus – The Story of a Ship or in German Erebus – One ship, two voyages and the world’s greatest mystery at sea.

From 2009 to 2012, Michael Palin was President of the famous Royal Geographical Society, with which he had already been associated for many years in various functions.

Wanted person: Sir Michael Edward Palin or Michael Palin

Title of the novel: Erebus – The Story of a Ship or Erebus – One Ship, Two Voyages and the World’s Greatest Mystery at Sea

I had a lot of fun with this puzzle. The Erebus book is a clear recommendation from me. A very comprehensive narrative with lots of details. Michael Palin follows the routes of the Erebus and reports alternately on the historical facts and stories and his personal impressions on site.

Best regards,

Raphael

Last riddle for the second treasure hunt
He was never able to find the lost expedition. But what he discovered was revered to his glory.
He had to leave his ship trapped in the ice in order to let the lives of his crew and his own flourish again in the light.
In order to save themselves from the greatest distress, they needed an instruction from a resolute hand as an external commandment.
Question:
What is the name of the person you are looking for, what did they discover and which ship did the rescue party come from?

SOLUTION:

This was, of course, about Sir Robert John Le Mesurier McClure, who had the task of searching for the Franklin Expedition with his expedition. Regardless of the health of his crew, he also pursued the goal of completing the Northwest Passage to discover it. He succeeded, but his ship became trapped in the ice. By chance, his ship was discovered by a reconnaissance party from the HMS Resolute was discovered. McClure’s crew was suffering from scurvy and malnutrition at the time. McClure refused to leave his ship of his own free will. Only on the orders of the commanding officer of HMS Resolute did he abandon his trapped ship.
