Hand-forged gardener’s spade from the German tool manufacturer Krumpholz. Krumpholz has been forging since 1799 and is still family owned. Durable, resilient ash wood or hard durable hickory wood is used for the wooden handles and grips. Best quality for highest demands in forestry work.
Notes Ash handle:
Ash wood handles are strong and elastic. Ash stem breakage is greatly increased when the stem dries out. Please do not store the stem in boiler rooms and similarly heated rooms. Ash stems are obtained from the domestic ash tree.
Hints for stemming
Handles for screwing:
Place the spade blade on the matching replacement handle and align it with the handle piece at the end of the handle. Ensure that the stem is seated positively in the spring sleeve. Clamp the spring grommet with the stem and fix the stem with the screws.
Handles for riveting:
Place the spade blade on the matching replacement handle and align it with the handle piece at the end of the handle. Ensure that the stem is seated positively in the spring sleeve. Clamp the spring grommet with the stem and drill the hole for the rivet using a 5mm wood drill bit. Then drive the rivet with a hammer. Counter the head of the rivet after driving it onto a piece of metal and mushroom or rivet the end of the rivet with circular hammer blows.
Care instructions
Dry wood after use. Storage in dry and unheated rooms, barns or garden sheds. When stored in heated rooms, the stem dries out and loses elasticity. The stem can then break more easily than with proper storage. If necessary, lightly treat the handle with a wood oil or linseed oil.
