Ash handles are strong and elastic. Ash stem breakage is greatly increased when the stem dries out. Please do not store the stem in boiler rooms and similarly heated rooms. Ash stems are obtained from the native ash tree.
Hints for stemming
Screw-on handles: Place the spade blade on the appropriate replacement handle and align it with the handle at the end of the handle. Ensure that the stem is seated positively in the spring sleeve. Clamp the spring sleeve with the handle and fix the handle with the screws. Handles for riveting: Place the spade blade on the matching replacement handle and align it with the grip at the end of the handle. Ensure that the stem is seated positively in the spring sleeve. Clamp the spring grommet with the stem and drill the hole for the rivet using a 5mm wood drill bit. Then drive the rivet with a hammer. After driving in the rivet, counter the head of the rivet onto a piece of metal and mushroom or rivet the end of the rivet with circular hammer blows.
